Illusions 3 is a double weave wallhanging, handwoven in cotton. This piece explores optical illusions which are created by use of the double weave block technique. Double weave uses two layers which interlock at different points both vertically and horizontally. There are some areas in this piece which employ double weave pick-up in order to create slanting boat shapes, where individual threads are pick up separately- a very slow process.
This weaving can be hung from the woven Inkle band or from the wood dowel, both of which are provided. It measures 95cm x 33cm plus a twisted fringe.
